Consultation vs Grievance
Consultation: A consultation is where a supervisor or employee meets with an Employee Relations Specialist to seek guidance regarding employment-related questions or concerns, such as questions about discipline, policies and procedures, performance management, and resolving conflicts.
Grievance: A grievance can be filed within 10 calendar days for the following: involuntary terminations, suspensions, demotions, or adverse actions that allegedly violate, misinterpret, or improperly apply specific University policies, procedures, rules, or regulations. Staff employees must work at least .5 full-time equivalency (FTE) and have completed their 6-month provisional employment period to be eligible to file a grievance.
